Ice Fishing in Alaska

Rob took Lucy and Susanna ice fishing this month. They went to a lake in town, caught some tiny land-locked Silver Salmon and drank some hot chocolate to stay warm. They saw a moose (pictured here behind Lucy in the distance), bald eagles, and the girls enjoyed "straining" the ice out of the fishing holes...we think the strainer had so much fun it ended up at the bottom of the lake! We cooked them up, they were delicious! We went ice fishing with Susanna's kindergarten class a week later and had no luck but, enjoyed watching the shrimp bait get played around with down there in the cold water!

Here are the latest highs and lows in Anchorage, 14 and 7, 15 and -1, 20 and 14, 16 and 8, 11 and 4...we are happy to be on the other side of the solstice, we gained 1 full minute of daylight today! Sunrise: 10:15am Sunset: 3:45pm.

Susanna, Lucy and Rob were outside this evening shoveling and playing in the backyard. They especially enjoy playing on the swingset and riding on the tube while Rob pulls them with a rope around in circles. It is a beautiful winter, the pine trees are beautiful with their thick snow cover. Rob saw faint Northern Lights on his way home from work last Saturday but, the city glow near our home was too strong to catch it. We're on the south side of town and mostly the activity, if any, is to the north, making it tough to see.
